SWOON!!! I'm absolutely in love with the new limited release for Opening Ceremony from fellow RISD grad Jim Drain ('98 SC). Absolutely brilliant designs and looks. Such a RISD aesthetic too! I could totally see kids hanging out in Olneyville in sweaters like these... well, if they didn't cost $400 to $700 bucks, oof! Read his interview here. Great stuff!

Tim and Eric Awesome Sweater, Good Job!

I was watching season three of the Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Good Job!. And stumbled across this skit. In it, comedienne Maria Bamford plays a crazy cat lady, with some serious abandonment issues. Luckily for us, crazy cat ladies tend to own the craziest sweaters around, and this is no exception. Maria Bamford has somehow been on my radar for a few weeks now, she keeps popping up in the oddest places. Most recently on a Target commercial (gotta pay those bills I guess). Koos Van Den Akker and Bill Cosby

Koos was responsible for kick- starting the Cosby sweater trend of the 1980's. He was asked by a close mutual friend of Cosby's to design a sweater for him, according to his site, the rest is history.
"[Josephine Premice] took it to the set of the Cosby Show where Bill immediately put it on and wore it for the taping. It was an instantaneous hit. Cosby, in his incredibly generous way began giving his friends presents made by Koos left right and center and the Koos designs became a sensation".
Along with other notable companies such as the wild Australian brand Coogi, the trend rode out the rest of the 80's and early 90's and is currently experiencing a resurgence among the hipper more ironic kids out there. America being the land of kitsch, it's not surprising to see younger generations embracing their poly-blend nits with gusto these days!

So a couple of weeks ago, while randomly searching the interwebs we stumbled upon this amazing little band. They hail from Chile, where the further south you go, the colder it gets, (like, penguins-sunning-on-the-beach-cold). Well, let me tell you, these boys know the value of a good "suéter"! All decked out in their best Chilean duds, these boys are rockin the Sweater Posse love for the Southern Hemisphere. Who knew alpaca came in so many colors?! PS here are some of their sweet vids... So it's been a while... a long while. Sorry for the delay in posts, chillens! So much has happened! Fall and Winter came to an end, as did the need for sweaters, (I personally love to wear mine thru the summer heat. Mmm, cleanses the pores... Ok just kidding, that's gross).

Well SPLIFF is back! The weather once again has dipped into the chilly arctic freezes that makes us pull out all our fave coats, hats and most importantly, crazy psychedelic sweaters! You know what I'm talking about!
Maybe you found yours at a thrift store, irony fully embraced. Or maybe your grandma took some shrooms and knitted one for you, (sure, the sleeves are a little wonky and ok, maybe it's more poncho than sweater, but still! It's the thought that counts, right?).
Or maybe you're Scandinavian.
